The Impact of Volunteering
Volunteering is the act of freely offering time, skills, and energy for the betterment of the community. Not only does it impact people and communities served, but it also impacts the volunteers themselves- fostering growth, compassion, empathy, knowledge, and a deeper understanding of the community they are serving. Additionally, the time, skills and energy donated by volunteers are cost saving. These are some of the benefits of volunteering:
- Community empowerment
- Social cohesion
- Expands social networks
- Encourages a culture of care/empathy
- Act of kindness
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering at "Housing is a Human Right FUND IT!" campaign is a powerful way of demonstrating your compassion and care to the community. Volunteers benefit our campaign by spreading awareness of the negative impact HCV has on the community. They can do this by reaching out to policy makers through letters, emails or attending meetings, and voice the need for funding to address the housing crisis many are going through. Volunteers can also attend events including housing fairs, meetings, and public gatherings. They can network with others and promote our campaign by handing out business cards and flyers. Volunteers can also work directly with individuals and families that are being impacted by the HCV program by interviewing them, listening, understanding what they are going through. Understanding what is going on in the community will give us more insight on what else we can do to help the community. As our campaign continues to grow and have more people involved, we can be open to more ideas on how we can promote our campaign and utilize volunteers.
